ATTCV with DU-65 at Camps-la-Source Chestnut Festival

12e Fête de la Châtaigne, des Vins et des produits du terroir - Camps-la-Source - 2014

The 12th Chestnut Festival in Camps-la-Source in the department of Var was held on Sunday 19th October. The full title of the Festival was, in translation, 12h Chestnut, Wine and Local Products Festival. Part of the program was short trips from the Camps-la-Source station with ATTCV's service vehicle DU-65, capable of taking a dozen passengers.

The activities started at 10 hours with a harvest mass in the village church.

Then followed an opening ceremony, mostly consisting of music and danses of musicians and dancers in traditional dresses in the square in front of the church. The mayor and the priest assisted to these performances.

At a ceremony on Sunday October 20 at Camps-la-Source station, the Mayor of Camps-la-Source baptized the ATTCV draisine (track inspection car) DU 65.

ATTCV staff prepare the draisine for the great event by gluing the Camps-la-Source coat of arms to the lower right side of the vehicle.

ATTCV at Fête de la Châtaigne in Camps-la-Source

The 11th Chestnut Festival in Camps-la-Source this year took place on Sunday October 20, 2013, in the center of the village. The usually calm village was this day invaded by a large crowd of visiters, most of them arriving by car. The mostly gray sky and light rain did not deter people from visiting this popular festival.

As during previous festivals, the ATTCV arranged for a short train service from the village's railway station on the Gardanne - Carnoules line. The station building is nowdays privately owned, but ATTCV has the possibility to load and unload passengers on the tracks passing the station. Passengers, who arrived from the village either on foot or on a horse-drawn carriage, were taken for a return trip both in the direction of Brignoles and in the direction of Carnoules. The draisine (track inspection railcar) has a seating capacity of more than a dozen people.

Track inspection railcar to ATTCV

The association for Train Touristique du Centre Var (ATTCV) in Carnoules has recently received a new rail vehicle, a model DU 65 track inspection railcar.

This motorized vehicle (in France called draisine) was manufactured in 1965 and has been used by the state railways (SNCF) for infrastructure works and track maintenance. It was based in Aubagne east of Marseille before its arrival in Besse.

It has a length of 8.3 meters and can seat approximately 15 persons, inluding the driver (who is seated in the middle of the cabin and changes his view of the line simply by turning his head to the left or to the right (cf. the driver's position in the railcar Picasso)).

After revision it is intended for use for track inspection and to move track work crews.
